Tips and Tricks for Google Chrome

Here’s a collection of 15 most useful tips and tricks for Google Chrome that will help you work faster and do more with your favorite web browser. You don’t have to install any extensions. It’s a big list so let’s dive right in.

1. Save web pages as PDFs

Google Chrome has a built-in PDF writer. Open any web page, press Ctrl+P on Windows (or Cmd+P on your Mac) and choose “Save as PDF” from the list of available printers to download that page as a PDF file. No extensions required.

2. Assign custom keyboard shortcuts

Google Chrome supports a variety of keyboard shortcuts but you can also assign your own custom shortcuts to launch various extensions and Chrome apps. Type chrome://extensions in the browser’s address bar to open the Extensions page, scroll to the bottom and click the link that says Keyboard Shortcuts.

3. Delete your web history selectively

Google Chrome’s history (chrome://history) doesn’t have a “Select All” button so if you are to delete, say, 20 pages from the history log, you’ll have to select 20 checkboxes. The trick is that you select the first checkbox, hold shift and select the last checkbox. Everything in between will get selected.

4. Install unapproved Chrome extensions

The newer versions of Chrome do not allow you to install extensions that are not listed in the official Google Chrome store. As a workaround, you can open the Extensions page of Chrome, turn on the Developer mode and drag-n-drop the extension (the .crx file) into your Chrome.

5. Quick Fix for Slow Chrome

Google Chrome may feel sluggish after several hours of continuous usage. The easiest fix is to restart your browser but sometimes the culprit could be a poorly coded extension or even a website. The clue can be found under Tools -> Task Manager. Sort the list by Memory, select the websites and extensions that are consuming more memory and click End Process.

6. Fake your current location

Certain websites, Google Maps for example, may ask the browser for your geographic location. You can choose not to share this data with the website or you may even fake your current location. Go to Tools -> Developer Tools and press the Esc key to open the console. Here switch to the Emulation tab and enter any value for latitude and longitude.

7. Reveal all your hidden passwords

Google Chrome can remember and auto-fill your passwords but they are masked with asterisks. If you would like to reveal a hidden password, open the Developer Tools, visually select the password field on the page and change the input type from password to text. Alternatively, you may find your saved passwords under chrome://settings/passwords.

8. Compose emails from the address bar

If you are to write a new email in Chrome, you’ll open the Gmail website and hit the compose button. Alternatively, just go to the browser’s address bar and type the mailto command like mailto:recipient@domain.com. This will open the Gmail compose window and auto-fill the address in the To field.

9. Take notes inside Chrome

While there are some good Chrome extensions that add notepad-like capabilities to your browser, there’s a little JavaScript hack that will instantly turn your Chrome into a text editor. Open a new tab and paste data:text/html,<html contenteditable> into the address bar. Click anywhere inside the tab and start typing.

10. Use Chrome as a Media Player

You can drag audio files, videos, images, text files and even PDF documents from your desktop into the Chrome video and view them without opening a dedicated viewer application.

11. Fit more bookmarks in the toolbar

If you would like to fit in more bookmarks in the Bookmarks Toolbar of Chrome, just right-click any bookmark, choose Edit and remove everything in the Name field. Hit save and Chrome will only show the site’s favicon in the toolbar. You can thus fit in many more bookmarks in the same space.

12. Improve Stability, load Flash only when needed

The world has moved to HTML5 but some websites still require the Adobe Flash Player. Go to your browser’s Advanced Settings (chrome://settings/content) and choose the “Click to Play” option under Plugins. The Flash Player will stay disabled in your browser and, should a website require Flash, you can activate it on-demand.

13. Pretend to be mobile on slow Internet

If you are on a slow Internet connection, or if the hotel is billing you for every byte of data, you can pretend to be a mobile device and most websites will serve you mobile-friendly versions that are often light in size. Open Chrome developer tools, switch to Emulation tab and choose either Android or iOS as the User Agent. Make sure Screen and Device emulation is off.

14. Remove embarrassing URLs

When you type a few characters in the Chrome’s address bar, the browser will suggest matching URLs from your web history. If there’s any particular URL that you would not like to appear in the list of suggestions, you can easily remove by clearing the history or from the address bar itself. Highlight any auto-complete URL in the drop-down list and press Shift+Delete to remove it permanently.

15. Switch to Google Cache instantly

Google Cache comes very handy if a web page you are trying is open is offline and Chrome makes it really easy for you to access the cached version of any page. While you are on a page, click the address bar, type cache: before the URL and hit Enter. You’ll be taken straight to the Google Cache, if there’s one.

How to Make An App for iOS Platform With Simple Steps

The use of smartphones has been growing by leaps and bounds at present, which has resulted in different opportunities to carve a niche for yourself besides making a ton of money by selling your app to countless individuals who are willing to shell out much money to get that app.

This post elaborately discusses on creating an iOS App Development meant especially for web designers in a few simple steps.
As a designer, making native apps for Apple’s iOS  seems to be an attractive, as well as a lucrative adventure. However, you need to be an experienced programmer or else the task will turn out to be difficult. This post explains some crucial steps on iPhone app development.
The result will look something like this :
01-end-result

Go Native

Native iOS development indicates using the software development kit (SDK) of Apple along with the programming language Objective C to author apps for the iPod Touch,  iPad and the iPhone. Apple has made it convenient for developers to use familiar languages like JavaScript, HTML and CSS, and third-party frameworks to make apps.
The demerit of third-party tools is that the resulting app will not be as powerful as the one that is authored natively.

How to get started

You’ll require two things to begin working with the iOS SDK. These are:
1. A Mac with the latest version of OS X.
2. X code application of Apple.
Download X code from the Mac App Store. It doesn’t cost a dime and weighs approximates 1.5GB which can be installed in half an hour.

Graphic Preparation

When you are waiting for the download to be completed, you can use Photoshop for preparation and exportation of graphics.
Try to work in Photoshop with non-destructive methods so that you may not require to design again. This indicates creating interface elements and buttons with vector layer styles and shapes and using great objects for the images.
You can find lots of templates with intact iOS system elements on the internet, which saves you a lot of time. The settings you require in an image editor while setting up a fresh blank iPhone document are as follows:
a) 640*1136 pixels
b) RGB colour mode
c) 72 ppi
These settings are for an iPod Touch 5th generation or an iPhone 5. For an iPod Touch 4th generation or an iPhone 4, 4S, the screen dimensions are bit shorter at 640 * 960 pixels.

Overview of Xcode

After installing Xcode, you have to download and unzip some template files.  In the package, move to the folder titled “Begin here”. Find the Xcode project document titled “Portfolio.xcodeproj” after which you need to double click on it to launch the document. After the document gets loaded, click on the left-sided icon titled “Portfolio, 1 target, iOS SDK”. You’ll eventually notice a project summary screen in the basic Xcode interface, which will look something like this-
03-xcode-overview
The “Navigator” contains all the files linked to your project while the “Editor” changes based on the kind of tasks you are performing. The “Target Summary” screen which will be given to you includes some fundamental alternatives for your apps, such as types of device, iOS version besides display orientation you’d want your app to support.
Click on AppDelegate.m afte which the editor area will transform into a code editor and will show the code present in the file. In the navigator region, click on MainWindow.xib after which the Interface Builder will be displayed by the Editor area. This is graphical user interface or GUI for assembling your application’s front-end.

The “Inspector” is something which you need to know pretty well. The last four are considered to be the most crucial.
05-inspector-bar
Another vital control is the button titled “Run” present in the top left portion of Xcode. If you press this, your project code will be compiled into an app. Run this in an iOS simulator to find out if it works without the need to load it onto a real device. Pressing it now will open the simulator and you’ll be presented with a iPhone on the desktop.

Browse the folder titled “PN G” and select the entire images. Check the box named “Copy items into destination group’s folder” and click on “Add”. The images now get imported into the project and can be available to Interface Builder and Xcode.

How to edit the template

Click on MainWindow.xib located in the project navigator to bring up the Interface Builder. Select the icon titled “Show the Object Library” in the library and scroll to find “View Controller”.

The View Controller has to be expanded in the dock and its “Tab Bar Item” selected.  Set the title in the Attributes Inspector as “Home” following which you need to select “tab-icon-home.png” from the dop-down menu of the image.
15-customise-tab-name-and-icon
The colour of the highlight of the tab bar can be altered by selecting the “Tab Bar” object after which you select “Image Tint” within the Attributes Inspector.
In the navigator, select “HomeViewController.xib” and from the library, drag “Label” onto the view in the canvas. If you want to edit the text, double click on the label within the canvas. Change this to “Home”.
16-adding-label-to-home-view1
This has to repeated for ContactViewController.xib and PortfolioViewController.xib, while naming the labels suitably.
Hit the “Run” button and check out the app in the simulator.

Compilation Of LibreCADv2 Using Terminal And Qt

Compilation Of LibreCADv2 Using Terminal And Qt
Our mentor Gurjot asked all the members of the CAD team to download and compile the source code of LibreCad2. We searched on internet for this purpose and downloaded the source code. Now after downloading it there are two ways by which we can compile the source code

1.By using QT

2.By using terminal

Firstly i tried to compile it using the terminal. It shows some kind of errors. I searched on internet for these errors, and followed the guidelines for resolving errors. These errors are due to the missing dependencies. The error which is common to many students was of boost library. The error is resolved by using following command

#sudo apt-get install libboost-all-dev

After installing the library. I compiled source code using the QT creator. Now it didn't showing any errors and the compilation starts. It took approximately 15-20 min to compile.
An executable file was made after the compilation, which is in the unix folder. So go to unix folder by using cd command. You will see there the executable file double click to open it. You may need to change the permission using the chmod command, give the permissions accordingly.

#Compilation using terminal

After compiling the source code with the QT, i also tried to compile it using the terminal, and i was succeeded. My friends didn't able to compile it using terminal. They have the problem of the make command.I followed following steps using terminal

1.Go to the folder where the source code is placed.

2.Type qmake librecad.pro

3.Type make

Now it will start compiling, after the compilation there will be a unix folder go to that and to run the LibreCad type

./librecad in terminal.

That's it now you will see the librecadv2 on your screen
